RUMOR: James Wan To Helm ‘Dead Space’ Film For Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is reportedly looking to tap a major horror director to helm a feature film adaptation of Dead Space. According to insider Daniel Richtman, James Wan is directing the project.
Set in the 26th century, the science-fiction-horror-based video game series centers on a fictional cult and its followers that believe the Earth’s government is suppressing an alien artifact called the Marker. The franchise features a number of games, films, comics, and books, each presented in a non-linear format. Throughout the series, the protagonists encounter mutated undead monsters originating from the Marker.

In 2013, iconic horror filmmaker John Carpenter expressed an interest in making a Dead Space film, but nothing seems to have come from that. In 2023, Carpenter revealed that a movie was in development, but a different director was set to helm it. Now based on Richtman’s report, it appears Wan is set to helm the project for Warner Bros.
Wan is a well-known name in the horror genre, having co-created the Saw and Insidious franchises while also creating The Conjuring Universe. He has also helmed several non-horror films, including Furious 7, Aquaman, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, set to release later this year.
Richtman did not reveal how far along the movie is in terms of development. It should also be noted that neither Wan nor Warner Bros. has confirmed the news. So, for now, fans of the franchise will have to stay tuned for further updates.
