Questlove To Direct Live-Action Adaptation Of Disney’s ‘The Aristocats’

In just a few short weeks, Disney’s latest live-action adaptation of an animated classic, The Little Mermaid, will hit theaters worldwide. However, the studio shows no signs of slowing down its big-budget reimaginings. Next, as first reported by Deadline, Disney will produce an updated version of its classic tale The Aristocats with Oscar winner Questlove on board to direct.
Per the initial report, the film will be a live-action hybrid film in the same vein as 2019’s The Lion King. Questlove, real-name Ahmir Thompson will make his directorial debut following helming the Academy Award-winning documentary Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) last year. Will Gluck (Peter Rabbit) and Keith Bunin (Onward) will write the film’s script with Questlove’s The Roots bandmate Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter serving as the film’s executive producer.

The Aristocats is a 1970 American animated musical comedy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and directed by Wolfgang Reitherman. Based on a story by Tom McGowan and Tom Row, the film follows a family of aristocratic cats and how an alley cat helps them after a butler has kidnapped them to gain his mistress’s fortune which was intended to go to them. The live-action adaptation is the latest attempt to bring the story back to life following failed attempts at a sequel and an animated series in 2005 and 2000, respectively.
