‘Creature Commandos’ Animated Series Announced For DC Slate

It is no shock that James Gunn wants to make a splash with his DC Universe slate, and he has chosen an interesting team to do it with. During the official reveal of his and Peter Safran’s slate, it was announced that an animated Creature Commandos series is the first project they will release.
First introduced in 1980’s Weird Tales #93, the team was created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. In the comics, the group featured a werewolf, a vampire, a gorgon, and Frankenstein’s monster. Different iterations of the team have appeared throughout the comics since their debut, but they have maintained their strange composition.

The animated series is already in production and will be comprised of 7 episodes written by Gunn himself. Creature Commandos will also feature the return of fan-favorite character Weasel from The Suicide Squad.
Gunn revealed that the team will also include Rick Flag, Sr., Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, Doctor Phosphorous, and the fish-woman-like creature Anita Mazursky. Given his love of obscure characters, it will surely feature some more surprises as well. A release date was also not announced for the series, but given it has already entered production, it will hopefully be soon.
