New ‘Fear Street’ Movie Adds Chloe Okuno As Director

New Fear Street movies were announced earlier this year, but it now has a director on board. Netflix has hired  Watcher‘s Chloe Okuno to helm the next film, according to Above The Line.
The original trilogy – 1994, 1978, and 1666 – were all written and directed by Leigh Janiak, but it is not clear she will be back for the new films or not. No matter the case, the adapation of the R.L. Stine book series has generated a cult-like following. Released over a three-week period in July, the first Fear Street trilogy proved to be a hit for the streamer.

The film from Okuno will be produced by Chernin Entertainment. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready will all be producing, as they did with the original trilogy. The original series also starred Kiana Madeira, Sadie Sink, Fred Hechinger, and an appearance from Maya Hawke. The films all had references to 80s and 90s slasher films with a hint of The Crucible. There is no cast or plot aviaiable, but the news is exciting nevertheless.
Okuno has made two short films, Slut and a segment in V/H/S 94. Her film Watcher made $2 million at the Box Office and has an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also has a 6.3/10 on IMDB. She seems to understand the horror/thriller genre, so her addition to the franchise seems natural.
