Netflix Is Returning To Shadyside & Developing More ‘Fear Street’ Films

About a year ago, Netflix released their Fear Street Trilogy. The films were released consecutively every Friday for three weeks. They were titled by the years 1994, 1978, and 1666. They are loosely based on R.L. Stine’s YA series of the same title. They were a massive hit and created a social media following similar to that of Stranger Things.
Well, surprise, surprise, like any other major studio after they strike gold – Netflix is developing more films for their series, according to Bloody Disgusting. They are reportedly deep into development, which hopefully means a surprise this Halloween season or a new trilogy next year.

R.L. Stine commented on the matter:
“I…hear rumors about more Fear Street movies for Netflix, because the first ones did so well last summer. “Those films kind of shocked me, because they were all R-rated, and I’ve never done anything R-rated! All those teenagers were getting slashed. I was like, ‘Suddenly, I have a slasher movie!’”
The films drew horror movie tropes from films like Scream and Friday the 13th. The Crucible, a film based on the Salem Witch Trials, seemed to be the influence of the third film. Slasher films seem to be making a comeback in the 2020s after a failed attempt in the 2010s, and Netflix is trying to cash in. Fear Street is a great way to enter that trend.
The Fear Street trilogy starred Stranger Things standouts Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink. The films also featured UFC star Michael Chandler. They were about a group of teens trying to solve the mystery of Sarah Fier (Kiana Madeira), a witch that cursed their town in Shadyside.
