‘Lovecraft Country’ Director Yann Demange To Helm ‘Blade’

Marvel Studios has finally tapped a new director to helm the highly anticipated Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lovecraft Country director Yann Demange is officially attached to the project.
Bassam Tariq was initially set to direct the film but departed in September, citing creative differences. Blade was already in pre-production and eyeing a November start date, so the move pushed the film back quite a bit.

The film is now looking at a complete rewrite as Michael Starrbury, who wrote Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us, has also joined the project. According to the report, Ali was personally involved in selecting the film’s writer. Stacy Osei-Kuffour was previously attached to pen the script for the film.
Details are still under wraps, but Marvel Studios reportedly intends for the film to be dark and gritty with some similarities to the original Blade trilogy. As of now, the movie is planning to go into production in 2023 in Atlanta. In addition to Ali, Blade will also star actors Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre in unknown roles.
