‘Venom 3’ Snags Screenwriter Kelly Marcel As Director

Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters continues to grow as Kelly Marcel has been tapped to direct Venom 3. The Tom Hardy-led films have been the foundation for Sony’s universe as they continue to expand their Spider-Man-villain universe.
Kelly Marcel has been involved with the Venom franchise since the first one came out in 2018. Marcel not only wrote both Venom and its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, but she produced both films as well. Marcel will be directing from a script written by herself and Tom Hardy. Hardy and Marcel have been said to be on the same page with the character from the beginning, which is what helped her land the job as director. However, plot details are unknown at this time. The usual Spider-Man producers Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker are also back for Venom 3.

Outside of the traditional Spider-Man franchise, Venom has been Sony’s most lucrative series of films, grossing over $1.35 billion. The films have followed Eddie Brock (Hardy) as he comes in contact with an alien symbiote that gives him superhuman powers. Brock and Venom have been depicted as an “odd couple,” which has helped differentiate themselves from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
