Angelina Jolie To Portray Opera Singer Maria Callas In Pablo Larraín’s ‘Maria’

Pablo Larraín recently turned heads with his Kristen Stewart-starring Princess Diana biopic Spencer. Up next, the filmmaker will tell the story of another iconic figure in history. According to Variety, Larraín is enlisting Angelina Jolie for a new film titled Maria.
The film will serve as a biographical retelling of the life and legacy of American-born Greek soprano opera singer Maria Callas. Larraín will reunite with his Spencer screenwriter Steven Knight, who is penning the script. In a statement accompanying the initial report, Jolie expresses how important this film is to her.
“I take very seriously the responsibility to Maria’s life and legacy. I will give all I can to meet the challenge. Pablo Larraín is a director I have long admired. To be allowed the chance to tell more of Maria’s story with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream,” said Jolie.
