‘The Walking Dead’: Andrew Lincoln & Danai Gurira Back For New Series

Fans of The Walking Dead were in for quite the surprise at the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con when Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira made an appearance. The two are set to reprise their roles as Rick Grimes and Michonne in a new series on AMC.
The series will replace the previously announced Rick Grimes movies that would have wrapped up the character’s story. Lincoln left The Walking Dead in 2018, while Gurira departed in 2020.

Lincoln explained that it will be a six-episode show on AMC and will air in 2023. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show will not be a limited series but rather the first season of a continuing series starring the duo.
As stated previously, the original plan was a trilogy of films starring Lincoln’s Grimes that would have been released in theaters. It was not revealed why the direction of the project shifted to a series, but it’s possible it was so that it could also accommodate Gurira’s Michonne leaving The Walking Dead.
