Mark Ruffalo & Hugh Laurie To Co-Star in Netflix’s ‘All The Light We Cannot See’

According to a Deadline report, actors Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie are the next two stars to join Netflix’s All the Light We Cannot See, an adaptation based on the 2014 book of the same name.
Their casting for the four-part limited series comes after star-on-the-rise Aria Mia Loberti was chosen as the show’s lead. Loberti, who is legally blind, will step into the role of Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a sightless French teenager who befriends a German boy at the height of World War II in occupied France. Ruffalo will play Daniel LeBlanc, Marie-Laure’s determined father. Laurie, meanwhile, will take on the reigns of Etienne LeBlanc, Marie-Laure’s war-tormented great uncle.

Ruffalo is no stranger to the limited series format, having earned a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Limited Series just two years ago for his dual-performance in HBO’s family drama, I Know This Much Is True. Similarly, Laurie earned acclaim and a Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his malevolent work in BBC’s The Night Manager. The condensed yet thorough story structure has produced some of the most talked-about shows in recent memory, especially for a platform like Netflix. Now, the mega-streaming library is setting the stage for a brand new showcase with a wallop of leading talent.
The trio of actors will be directed by Shawn Levy for all four episodes. This venture marks a notable shift in tone for Levy, as his previous directorial efforts have been largely defined by goofy leading men and brawny special effects (i.e. Free Guy, Real Steel, the Night at the Museum trilogy).
Scripting duties for All the Light We Cannot See will be handled by Steven Knight, who previously teamed with Netflix for the sixth and final season of his ultra-violent gangster drama, Peaky Blinders.
