‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Ep. 104 ‘Hot Shrimp Salad’ Review – ‘Sex Sells and Murders?’

I Know What You Did Last Summer has done a wonderful job incorporating modern day things into the new series. We’ve seen Instagram Live several times, and kids strung out on opioids. The fourth episode opens with a very new, but relevant topic, OnlyFans. The social media giant where you can record yourself doing just about anything, and people can pay to watch. The site is mostly used for porn, but like twitch and YouTube it can be used for gaming and vlogs. The episode also incorporates Bitcoin as a means of how those funds are transferred.

This episode focuses on our main victim, whom I shall not name. Our crew Lennon/Allison (Madison Iseman). Riley (Ashley Moore), Johnny (Sebastian Amoruso), Dylan (Ezekiel Goodman), and Margot (Brianne Tju) are still dealing with their stalker. The police are narrowing down suspects, and so is the crew. The episode focuses on the private life of Lenton and how she had an OF account under her sister’s name. The account had sex tapes of her and Margot, and some guys from the town. It’s a pretty wild episode that has Dylan tell his true feelings, and ends with in more violence. As it seems Sheriff Lyla (Fiona Rene) begins to figure out who it may be courtesy of her Deputy.

Logan Kibens give us a well directed episode that shows the emotion of our main characters. The characters are struggling to cope with what’s happening, and trying to figure this weird whodunnit. Phoebe Fisher writes a slow paced episode that we can enjoy, but leaves us on our toes for the midseason finale. The ride has been wild thus far, and she paces us through to what is a wild ending. The way this sets up is that the backend of this season is going to be a doozy as we continue to think about who is stalking and murdering people on this island.

The modernization of I Know What You Did last Summer is something to smile about. The show puts us in 2021, and isn’t as corny as it original counterpart. It isn’t realistic for the most part, but that’s what makes it fun. People are going to complain about the OF theme of this episode, but it’s a wild reality. They aren’t promoting it, they use it to show how toxic it can be. It damaged the crew in ways they can’t fathom, and they are paying for it.

The episode is awkward, albeit, enjoyable. It’s a slow moving yet revealing episode, and it gives us some vital information. It was pretty cool how they incorporated some relevant things into the episode, that will prove to be important later. My only gripe is the OF stuff, simply because high school kids having an account like that just seems odd. I know the actors aren’t kids, but the age portrayed in the show and the time frame is just… Odd. Other than that, this was a solid episode that definitely leaves us wanting the back half of the show. – Rascal F. Kennedy
