First Official Look At Tom Sturridge As Dream In ‘The Sandman’ Revealed

During Netflix’s global fan event, Tudum, Saturday, the streamer revealed a first look at a number of upcoming series and films. The first official look at actor Tom Sturridge as Dream of the Endless in the live-action series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman was included.
Created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, Dream first appeared in 1989’s The Sandman #1. He is one of the seven Endless and the personification of all dreams and stories. In DC Comics, he rules over The Dreaming and has gone by many names, including Morpheus and Oneiros. In 1916 Dream was imprisoned by British occultist Roderick Burgess only to escape 70 years later and find his kingdom in ruins.

The first official look at Sturridge as Dream can be seen above. The series had done an excellent job of keeping the character’s design from the comics while revitalizing it for the show’s modern setting.
The Sandman series was given an 11 episode order from Warner Bros. and Netflix. Gaiman executive produced with David S. Goyer and writer/showrunner Allan Heinberg. Production on the series was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which luckily gave the creative team time to perfect the scripts.
