15 Anime To Check Out After Watching ‘Star Wars: Visions’
This Wednesday saw the release of Lucasfilm’s highly anticipated Star Wars: Visions project. The series featured a number of animated short films set in the world of Star Wars from some of the most prominent anime studios in the industry. With the series serving as an entryway for many into the world of anime, we have put together a list of recommended series and films for those looking for more works by these studios.
Kamikaze Douga – The Duel
Batman Ninja – After a fight with Gorilla, Grodd finds Batman transported to Feudal Japan; the Dark Knight sets out to find a way home. But unfortunately for him, his journey will not be easy as the inmates of Arkham Asylum now rule over Japan with the Joker as the most dominant warlord.
Geno Studio – Lop and Ochō
Golden Kamuy – Taking place after the Russo-Japanese War, the story follows veteran Saichj Sugimoto. Sugimoto finds himself on a quest to find the vast fortune of gold of the Ainu people as he is helped along the way by the young Ainu girl Asirpa.
Kokkoku: Moment by Moment – The story follows Juri Yukawa, who discovers that her grandfather has the ability to stop time using a mysterious stone. As she travels through this frozen time, she encounters others with similar skills and mysterious monsters.
Studio Colorido – Tatooine Rhapsody
Burn the Witch – Set in the same universe as Bleach, the series follows witches Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole. Together the duo work to protect and manage the dragon population of Reverse London, a world that exists in the hidden side of the city.
A Whisker Away – When high schooler Miyo Sasaki’s unorthodox methods of love are unable to get the attention of her crush Kento Hinode she tries a new approach. After taking on the form of a white cat, Miyo gets closer to Kento but soon finds she is unable to help him with his own issues while in this form. Trapped between two choices, Miyo has to decide what she can do to help Kento.
Trigger – The Twins & The Elder
Kill la Kill – The series follows Ryuko Matoi on her search to find her father’s killer. While on her journey, she comes into conflict with the student council president of Honnouji Academy, Satsuki Kiryuin, and her mother’s fashion empire. In their conflict, Ryuko and Satsuki obtain clothes with a will of their own that offer them martial arts superpowers.
Promare – After the emergence of flame-wielding mutants called the Burnish suddenly appeared, a large portion of humanity was lost. But thanks to the advanced technology and the efforts of firefighters known as the Burning Rescue, the republic of Promepolis has been able to fend off the creatures. The story follows Galo Thymos as he uncovers the truth about his world and begins to question everything about the Burnish and Promepolis.
Darling in the FranXX – A co-production between Studio Trigger, A-1 Pictures, and CloverWorks, Darling in the FranXX is set in a dystopian future where artificially created children are used to defend the remnants of humanity from creatures known as klaxosaurs. The story follows a squad of ten pilots, focusing on the relationship between Hiro and Zero Two, a hybrid who hopes to one day become entirely human.
Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride
Made in Abyss – In this world, brave adventurers venture into a giant gaping chasm in the earth called The Abyss. The young Riko aspires to be like her mother, who went missing in The Abyss and sets out on a journey into the unknown. After encountering a mysterious robot boy named Reg, Riko sets out with her new friend to uncover the secrets of this world.
The Rising of the Shield Hero – Set in the kingdom of Melromarc, the country is defended from dangers by The Four Cardinal Heroes, a group of ordinary men from modern-day Japan who were summoned to this world. The story follows Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, as he sets out on his own to strengthen himself and his reputation after he is betrayed.
Science SARU – Akakiri & T0-B1
Devilman: Crybaby – When Akira Fudou attends the Sabbath, a party of debauchery and depravity, with his childhood friend Ryou Asuka they come face to face with demons. As the creatures attack the partygoers, Akira fuses with the devil Amon gaining powers to allow him to defeat the remaining monsters, becoming a Devilman himself.
Ride Your Wave – When the young surfer Hinako Mukaimizu has a fateful encounter with the talented firefighter Minato Hinageshi her life is changed forever. As the two become closer, Hinako tries to keep Minato by her side as she contemplates her uncertain future.
Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! – The story follows high schooler Midori Asakusa who loves anime and spends her time drawing new ideas and settings in her sketchbook. When Midori’s friend Sayaka Kanamori sees the value in her ideas, the two set out with their classmate Tsubame Mizusaki to create their own anime and come to know the power imagination has in their lives.
Production I.G – The Ninth Jedi
Haikyu!! – Inspired by the volleyball ace Little Giant, the young Shouyou Hinata revives the volleyball club at his middle school. After Tobio Kageyama crushes his team, Hinata vows to surpass his new rival. But after going on to join later join his high school volleyball team, he finds that his new teammate is none other than Kageyama.
Blue Spring Ride – After a misunderstanding between the popular and well-liked Futaba Yoshikoa and her classmate Kou Tanaka drove the two apart in middle school, the former decided to change herself. Now in high school, Futaba has created a new personality for herself, but her world is soon turned upside down when Kou comes back into her life after going through some changes of his own.
