DreamWorks Eyeing Laura Dern, Lana Condor & Michael Sheen For ‘Meet The Gillmans’

DreamWorks is eyeing some serious star power for its upcoming fantasy animation. According to insider Daniel RichtmanMeet the Gillmans is interested in Lana Condor, Laura Dern, and Michael Sheen to star in the film.

The story centers on Ruby, a typical teenage girl growing up in a seaside town in Florida. Like all teenagers, she’s embarrassed by her family. Only in this case, Ruby has extra reason to be embarrassed, because she’s from a family of… sea monsters. No one in town knows this (the Glimans are “different” but the locals chalk it up to them being from Canada), but poor Ruby is scared to death that someday the truth will come out. If this happened, what would become of her social life? Naturally, the truth comes out, and disaster ensues.

According to the casting grid shared by Richtman, DreamWorks has offers out to Condor and Dern to play Ruby and Agatha, respectively. Additionally, the studio is interested in Sheen to star as the father. Lastly, Schitt’s Creek actress Annie Murphy is attached to play the mermaid Clarica.

The animation is set to be directed by Paul Tibbit with a script written by Pam Brady. Chris Kuser and Christi Soper executive producing. Production will reportedly start in 2022.
