Ava DuVernay Developing DC Comics’ ‘Naomi’ Series For The CW
Ava DuVernay is set to handle yet another DC Comics project. According to The Wrap, DuVernay is developing a Naomi series for The CW.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell, Naomi McDuffie debuted in 2019’s Naomi #1. Born on an alternate universe’s Earth, Naomi’s planet was bombarded by radiation after the ozone layer collapsed. As a result, 29 random people were given godlike powers, including Naomi’s mother. After the young girl’s life was threatened, her parents took her to Earth-Prime, where she has lived as an ordinary girl.

DuVernay will executive produce and write the series with Jill Blankenship. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes will also produce under DuVernay’s Array Filmworks.
The logline for the series reads:
“Naomi” follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.
This is the second new DC series The CW has announced recently. In November, the network announced a Wonder Girl show focusing on Yara Flor was also in the works.
