Siena Agudong Rumored To Star In Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’

Less than a week ago, reports that Crazy Rich Asians star Jon M. Chu is taking the reins to Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch hit the web. Confirmation that a director is officially on-board creates new interest in the latest in a long line of Disney remakes. Now that a director is set, a new rumor from The DisInsider suggests that the studio has found its star to lead the film’s cast.
Per the initial report, Siena Agudong will star in the movie as one of the titular characters. Best known for her roles in the Netflix series No Good Nick and the Nickelodeon series Star Falls, Agudong will star in the film as Lilo. However, this news comes as a shock to many Disney fans. At the time of this writing, the young actress is 16-years-old while, in the original picture, Lilo is just six. This would put a new wrinkle into the movie and offer a chance for it to stand out when compared to its predecessor.

Take this rumor with a grain of salt for now. However, the source remains one of the most reliable on the internet. Regardless, Disney and the aforementioned Chu are currently in search of a screenwriter to help rework the screenplay. The first draft of the script hails from Mike Van Waes (The Crooked Man). Moreover, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin) will serve as executive producers alongside Ryan Halprin (The Lego Batman Movie). Previously, it was reported that the film would premiere on the Disney+ streaming service in lieu of a theatrical release.
Releasing in 2002, Lilo & Stitch is the 42nd Disney animated feature film. The film hails from Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois in their directorial debuts. The film’s story follows two mischievous individuals. A six-year-old Hawaiian girl named Lilo (her 19-year-old sister Nani raises her after their parents die in a car accident) and a blue extraterrestrial creature, Experiment 626, who Lilo adopts as her dog and renames Stitch. Moreover, the film spawned the creation of a franchise with various direct-to-video sequels and a television series on the Disney Channel.
