The upcoming Tron sequel is looking to add another star to its roster. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is interested in Mulan‘s Liu Yifei for a lead role.
On Monday, it was announced that Garth Davis will helm the sequel, which is set to star Jared Leto. Richtman revealed a casting breakdown for the film, which not only confirmed the film is titled Tron: Ares but also that the studio is interested in Yifei for a lead role.
The project is described as a stand-alone sequel to Tron: Legacy focused on Leto’s character Ares. Yifei’s potential role is currently under wraps, but it is described as the female lead alongside Leto’s Ares. Beyond this, much of the film is still under wraps, but it seems Disney is finally making some headway with its direction given these recent announcements.
Davis is currently signed on to helm the project with Jessie Wigutow working on the screenplay. Sam Dickerman and Foster Driver will serve as studio executives, and Justin Springer will produce.
