‘Candyman’s Nia DaCosta To Direct ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Marvel Studios has finally found a director to helm the highly anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel. According to Deadline, Nia DaCosta has been tapped to direct the film.
DaCosta is taking over directing duties from Anne Bowden and Ryan Fleck, who handled the first film. It was confirmed in January that Marvel was on the search for someone new to direct the film to give the franchise a fresh voice. For the past few months, the studio has met with a number of candidates, and it seems that the search has finally paid off.

On the rise since helming the indie Little Woods, DaCosta has made a name for herself in Hollywood to the point where she was handpicked by Jordan Peele to direct the upcoming Candyman reboot. According to Deadline, the director has had an edge against her fellow candidates for some time as she met with Marvel chief Kevin Feige over the weekend.
WandaVision staff writer Megan McDonnell is currently writing Captain Marvel 2. The film will see Brie Larson return to star as the superheroine Carol Danvers. Marvel Studios reportedly has big plans for the movie as it is rumored to have the same scale as Captain America: Civil War. The film will focus on Larson’s Carol Danvers, but it will supposedly feature several other heroes, including the Avengers and Ms. Marvel, in hopes of setting up the New Avengers.
