Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Series Casting Gren

Recently it was confirmed that Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop series was cleared to resume production, and a new character breakdown has revealed they are casting a fan-favorite character. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the series is casting for the character Gren.
Introduced during the Jupiter Jazz arc, Grencia Mars Elijah Guo Eckener was a soldier during the Titan War. Gren was betrayed by the series’ main villain, Vicious, and was sent to prison, where he was subjected to powerful drugs, which resulted in unforeseen consequences. While a one-off character in the series, Gren has quite the fanbase and has become a favorite among many.
According to a new casting call, Gren’s character is described as “nonbinary, genderqueer, intersex, transmasculine, and/or third gender in their 30s.” They are a “bartender at Ana’s nightclub and Ana’s right hand person. As capable with a saxophone as a glock, as confident in a dress as a suit, Gren is a Bowie-esque embodiment of 22nd century handsome beauty.” Netflix is looking to cast people who identify as nonbinary, genderqueer, intersex, transmasculine, and/or third gender in the recurring role.

In April 2019, it was announced that John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda, and Alex Hassell had all been cast in lead roles as Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, and Vicious in the series. Additionally, Elena Satine was cast as Julia in August. The series is described as:
“A jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine and Radical Ed: a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world…for the right price.”
As of now, the series does not have a release date, but production will reportedly start back up in September and film through January. So with production set to begin again soon, it seems likely Netflix will reveal more about the series soon.
