‘Zatanna’ Film Reportedly In Early Development At Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. is looking to introduce more magic into the DCEU. According to DCEU Mythic, a Zatanna film is in early development at the studio.
Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, Zatanna was first introduced in 1964’s Hawkman #4. A stage magician with powerful abilities, Zatanna took after her father, Zatara, and used her powers as a hero for good. She has crossed the lines between the main DC universe and Vertigo, much like John Constantine, often serving as a member of both the Justice League and Justice League Dark.
DCEU Mythic explained that this project is separate from the Justice League Dark project Bad Robot is working on. Additionally, it seems like other members of Justice League Dark could be heading to the big screen.
In November 2018, it was announced that Warner Bros. was thinking about creating female-focused films about characters, including Supergirl, Batgirl, and Zatanna. While Batgirl seems to be moving along well, with recent reports claiming Michael Keaton could play a role in it, there have been no updates on the Supergirl or Zatanna project until now. Given the rumor that JJ Abrams could tackle Superman, it would appear that Supergirl has been placed on the backburner.
Many fans were hopeful Zatanna would make an appearance in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but the director shot it down immediately. The character has never appeared on the big screen before; however, she has had many appearances in television and animation.
