Keke Palmer To Star In Krystin Ver Linden’s Historical Thriller ‘Alice’

Keke Palmer has recently been all over the news with her activism within the Black Lives Matter Movement. However, the performer is one of the most multifaceted actresses and singers in modern Hollywood. As first reported by Variety, Palmer will star in the upcoming historical thriller titled Alice, based on true events.
The film will be the directorial debut of Krystin Ver Linden. The filmmaker will also pen the film’s script. The story will adapt the real-life events from what appears to be 1800s Georgia. However, after a captured slave-woman escapes from the 55-acre confines of her captor, she discovers the unreal reality that awaits her, it is really 1973. Palmer expressed what she hopes to accomplish with the film in a statement included with the initial report.
“So many films that depict this time in our history are rooted in victimization of the black female lead,” Palmer said. “This story is the opposite and that’s what attracted me to Krystin’s perspective. It tackles the harsh realities of slavery and white supremacy while also offering inspiration and vindication through the story of Alice’s journey. I don’t want anyone to leave the theater feeling debilitated, I want them to feel empowered.”
