Zack Snyder Announces His ‘Justice League’ Cut Will Arrive On HBO Max

Zack Snyder has announced that his original cut of 2017’s Justice League will be available for audiences on HBO Max in 2021.
During a rewatch of his 2013 film Man of Steel, where he kickstarted the DC Extended Universe, the director let it slip that his original cut of Justice League will be set to air on the upcoming streaming service.
Details regarding how the cut are now being reported by THR. The Snyders received a call in November from WB Pictures Chairman Toby Emmerich who said regarding the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement:
“This is real. People out there want it. Would you guys ever consider doing something?”
Zack went on to say that he is reassembling his original postproduction crew, VFX artists, and editors to finish the cut. It isn’t clear whether or not any actors will return for additional dialogue. This new endeavor will cost anywhere from $20-$30 million to complete.
The original cut of the film was close to 4 hours long. It isn’t clear if the cut will be released in four 1-hour increments or 6 episodic chapters.
Zack Snyder had this to say about his cut:
“You probably saw one-fourth of what I did. I always thought it was a thing that in 20 years, maybe somebody would do a documentary and I could lend them the footage, little snippets of a cut no one has ever seen.”
One thing is for certain: Darkseid will be appearing in this new cut of the film.
Following a family tragedy, the director had to step down in the midst of post-production on the film. Joss Whedon, writer/director of The Avengers, was then brought on board to oversee additional photography. Many fans felt that Whedon’s quippy sensibilities didn’t mesh with Snyder’s darker version of the super team, resulting in a “Frankenstein’s Monster” of a movie.

Audiences have been clamoring for the “Snyder Cut” ever since the theatrical release, with the movement coming to a head last November when stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher tweeted out the hashtag. Since then it’s seemed the cut of the film had only picked up steam, and now the wishes of the fans have finally been answered.
