UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Joe and Anthony Russo are producing the live-action Hercules film with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Dave Callaham set to pen the script.
ORIGINAL STORY: It looks like Disney has settled on its next live-action remake. According to The DisInsider, the studio is developing a live-action remake of Hercules.
Per the report, Disney has tapped The Lion King‘s Jeffrey Silver and Karen Gilchrist to produce. The film is expected to have a theatrical release, unlike the Disney+ original Lady and the Tramp. The DisInsider also revealed a list of possible directors they have heard in connection with the film; however, they have clarified that they are not claiming anyone of them have entered formal discussions.
Jon Favreau, who directed The Jungle Book and The Lion King for Disney, is one name the outlet has heard from two separate sources, with the second being the Russo Brothers, who helmed some of Marvel Studios’ most critically acclaimed films, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Finally, The DisInsider’s list concludes with Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films and The Lone Ranger.
