‘Aquaman 2’ Will Be Based On The Character’s Silver Age Comics

It appears that DC’s Aquaman 2 is beginning to take shape. According to screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the film will be taking inspiration from the Silver Age comics.
Rather than adapt any particular comic book story, the film will draw inspiration from the Silver Age, particularly comics that featured Black Manta. It has been known for some time now that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II would reprise his role as the villain in the highly anticipated sequel. Now, based on this quote from Johnson-McGoldrick, he will have a prominent role in the film.
When asked about the film by a fan on Twitter, Johnson-McGoldrick explained what the general tone of the film will be.
Hmm… Good question. We're not taking any one particular comic book story and adapting it, but if you want to know the vibe we're going for, pick up pretty much any Silver Age story featuring Black Manta.

As fans of the comics know, the Silver Age is best remembered for fleshing out the character of Arthur Curry and Black Manta. Given both Jason Momoa and Abdul-Mateen II were praised for their respective roles, fans should be excited to see how they will delve deeper into the characters’ psyches.
Johnson-McGoldrick did not offer any further details about the sequel as far as plot or who the central villain will be besides Black Manta. Many have speculated Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master will return in some way to antagonize Momoa’s Aquaman further.

Aquaman 2 is set for a December 16, 2022 release date.
