Disney’s catalog of films continues to grow day-by-day. Following the launch of their very own streaming service with Disney+, the need for new content has never been more crucial. As first revealed by Discussing Film, Disney will team with filmmaker Manjari Makijany to develop a new movie-musical titled Spin.
Per the initial report, Spin will focus on a teenager dealing with the fallout of the death of her mother. Her life is suddenly thrust into caring for the family restaurant. However, after she meets a young up-and-coming DJ, she reignites her passion for music and adjusts her list of priorities.
Manjari Makijany has long been a staple of American and Hindi films. She sat in the director’s chair for award-winning short films The Last Marble and The Corner Table. Additionally, the filmmaker served as second assistant director for The Dark Knight Rises and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Her film credits also include production assistant gigs for Wonder Woman and Dunkirk.
Spin will feature a screenplay written by Carley Steiner (Play Date), Céline Geiger (The Vampire Diaries) and Josh A. Cagan (The Duff). Walt Disney Pictures will produce and distribute the film Zanne Devine (Easy A) serving as executive producer. Spin will stream exclusively on Disney+.
