‘Scream 5’ In Development With ‘Ready Or Not’ Directors

The Scream franchise gave pop culture one of the most recognizable killers, Ghostface, in the history of horror films. Created by Kevin Williamson, the series of 4 films have grossed over $608.5 million worldwide. As first reported by Discussing FilmDiscussing Film, a fifth film within the Scream franchise is in development with the directors of 2019’s Ready or Not attached.
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will helm the upcoming installment. Additionally, Scream creator Williamson will produce alongside Chad Villella (Ready or Not), James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and William Sherak (Suspiria).

Per the initial report, Scream 5 will focus on a “woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.” Whether or not the film will exist in the existing Scream canon is currently unknown. Moreover, no actors have been announced for the cast at this time.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett emerge as two rising stars in the horror genre. Their film Ready or Not earned $57.4 million worldwide. Additionally, the film sits at an approval rating of 88% based on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 7.19/10. The duo previously teamed for 2014’s Devil’s Due and 2015’s Southbound.
