In just a few short weeks, Disney will release its newest live-action adaptation of an animated classic with Mulan. These live-action films have proven to be extremely profitable ventures. Expectantly, the studio shows no signs of slowing down. As first reported by The DisInsider, a live-action Rapunzel film is now in development.
The movie will reportedly feature a script written by The Nutcracker and the Four Realms scribe Ashleigh Powell. Additionally, it will be produced by Moneyball‘s Michael De Luca and Christopher Robin‘s Kristin Burr. Additionally, the film will receive a large theatrical release as opposed to streaming on Disney+.
Previously, Disney told the classic Rapunzel fairytale in the 2010 film Tangled. While it remains unconfirmed that the new film will adapt that story, it would be surprising for Disney to not borrow thematic elements.
Following the overwhelming success of 2019’s Aladdin and The Lion King, Disney is developing a live-action version of Lilo & Stitch and an origin story for 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella De Vil starring Emma Stone. Reports of a sequel to Aladdin surfaced last week as well.
