‘Rose & Thorn’ Feature Film In Development For HBO Max

When it was first reported that HBO Max was looking to develop original films based on DC characters, many wondered what character they would tackle first. Well, it seems fans finally have their answer as FandonWire is reporting HBO Max is developing a Rose & Thorn feature film.
Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino in 1947, Rose Canton first appeared in Flash Comics # 89. Rose has a split personality disorder with her alternate self adopting a villainous persona by the name of Thorn. When the character first surfaced, she served an antagonist for Jay Garrick until she was temporarily cured of her disorder, at which point she married Alan Scott and had two children with the hero. A new version of the character was created during DC’s New 52 relaunch by Tom Taylor and Neil Googe in 2012.

This appears to be the version of the character HBO Max will be developing. After being institutionalized following the death of her, father Rose develops a split personality named Thorn, who is determined to find her father’s murderers. The character wields powers of chlorokinesis, enhanced speed, and extensive knowledge of botany and toxicology.
It is not currently known whether the film will take place within the DCEU or if it will be standalone. As of now, the streaming service is developing TV series based on Green Lantern and Strange Adventures. The streaming service will also house Warner Bros. catalog of films and shows as well as the DC Universe series Titans and Doom Patrol.
