Fresh off the massive success of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers are currently working on Cherry starring Tom Holland. It seemed unlikely the duo would return to the MCU anytime soon, but according to a recent interview with Inverse, the directors are interested in the development of Disney+’s Moon Knight.
In the past, the Russo Brothers have stated that what would draw them back to the MCU would be nothing short of Secret Wars, so this news is a bit of a twist. Moon Knight is bound to be a much more contained story than they are used to in Marvel.
It should be noted the duo currently has their hands full with Cherry, but they do leave the idea of returning open. When asked by Inverse about which Disney+ series they would like to work on Joe Russo revealed that Marc Spector is someone he has his eye on:
“Moon Knight would be fun. It’s hard to say because we’re in the middle of Cherry right now. We’re on location in Cleveland shooting at the moment. But anything Marvel does is going to be special. And we’ve had such an amazing working relationship with them that I’m sure we’re all gonna find something to come back together.”
Little is known about Moon Knight as they only just brought on The Umbrella Academy‘s Jermey Slater as showrunner. As the release of the series draws closer, fans should expect casting and production announcements sooner rather than later.
Making his debut in 1975, Marc Spector is a Jewish-American, born in Chicago, Illinois. As an adult, Spector decides to give up being a Marine to become a mercenary. While on a mission in Egypt, Spector is left for dead after losing a fight to Raoul Bushman. He’s found by a group of Egyptians who take him to an ancient temple that houses a statue of the moon god Khonshu. As Spector fights for his life, the god appears to him, offering him a second chance at life.
