‘Morbius’ Writers To Develop Madame Web Movie For Sony

Sony is adding to its ever-growing lineup of SUMC films. According to Collider, Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are set to write the script for a Madame Web movie.
In late 2017, Sony brought in Sazama and Sharpless to write the script for another Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius, which hit theaters July 31, 2020 and has Jared Leto in the titular role. The writing duo’s other credits include Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt. Additionally, they received a story credit for their work on the script for the recent reboot of Power Rangers.
First appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #210 in 1980, Cassandra Webb was a professional medium who helped Spider-Man track down Daily Globe publisher K.J. Clayton, who turned out to be an imposter. This interaction was the first of many between Madame Web and Peter Parker in which she helps him fight crime using her abilities.

For fans of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Madame Web should be familiar as she appeared throughout the series’ run, voiced by Joan B. Lee. In the show’s continuity, Web was an ally of the Beyonder, with similar powers over reality. She tasks Spidey with traveling to alternate realities to gather other Spider-Men to aid them in stopping Spider-Carnage from destroying the multiverse.
Madame Web will join the number of characters that already have films in development under the SUMC banner. Currently, Morbius and Venom 2 are the farthest along, with the former already finished filming and the latter having Andy Serkis attached to direct.
