Kumail Nanjiani Reveals ‘Eternals’ Will Be “Building Blocks” Of MCU

After 23 Marvel films to date, Marvel Studios will be exploring the cosmic in greater depth in Phase 4. While at the D23 expo this past weekend, Kumail Nanjiani revealed some story details about when the MCU’s next franchise, Eternals, will take place.
During an interview with ET, Nanjiani, who was cast as Kingo in the film, revealed Eternals will be taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe long before the events of Captain America: The First Avenger:
“It’s really, really exciting. It’s a lot different than the other Marvel movies we’ve seen. It’s a lot more cosmic. It really is about the beginnings of the Marvel universe, so we’re telling a story [that Kevin Feige] says spans thousands of years. This movie starts well before, you know, Captain America was the oldest member we’ve seen and now, it’s going to be way, way, way back so it really going to be the building blocks of the MCU.”
It is interesting that Nanjiani says the Eternals will be the “building blocks of the MCU”. Disney recently bought Fox and was able to recover Marvel properties like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. It will be interesting to see if Eternals will play a big role in introducing Mutants or Marvel’s First Family into the MCU for future films.
