Kit Harington Cast As Black Knight In Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

Off the heels of Disney+ and Star Wars announcements comes the reveal of Kit Harington’s role in the MCU as Dane Whitman, the Black Knight.
The Game of Thrones alum will be joining the expanding cast of Marvel’s Eternals, reuniting on screen with his fellow Stark, Richard Madden. Costumes for the star-studded cast were revealed during the D23 Expo but did not include any art for Black Knight. Though a non-Eternal character, Black Knight has had a history of working with the likes of the Defenders, Doctor Strange, and the Avengers. However, given his introduction is set in Eternals, it is likely that Black Knight will be seen as a love interest to Sersi. The two share a complicated history and at one point in time held a psychic link with each other.

For those unfamiliar with Whitman’s character, he is the nephew of the previous villain Black Knight, Nathan Garrett. However, Whitman takes up the mantle to fight against evil rather than for it. As a result, a man of science found himself whisked away into a world of magic, aliens, and heroes. He inherited a medieval weapon enchanted by Merlin himself, the Ebony Blade. The first to hold the Blade was Sir Percy, the first Black Knight, which was meant for good but committed so much bloodshed that the weapon was later cursed.
After the evil Black Knight perished, Whitman infiltrated the Masters of Evil under the guise that he was following in his uncle’s footsteps. Eventually, Black Knight joined the Avengers in the fight against Kang the Conquerer, the next possible big bad for the MCU.
