Marvel and Sony To Court ‘Spider-Man’ Director Jon Watts For The Future

Spider-Man’s journey over the past week has been a wild one. First Sony cut ties with Disney and removed Spider-Man from the MCU. Details of the deal were skewed, and now it seems Jon Watts is being courted by both sides according to Deadline.
There were multiple report flying around this week about the deals Watts and Tom Holland had with Sony. The details about the Disney and Sony deal for utilization of Spider-Man have been even more convoluted. What we do know, is Jon Watts’ deal for Spider-Man movies was only for two films. Those films being Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. There is absolutely no certainty right now that he will be back to direct the next Spider-Man movie, or the fourth on Holland’s contract.
What is new, is that Watts is now being courted by Marvel for future films. After the success he’s had with Spider-Man, it’s truly understandable Feige wants to continue the positivity. And after all of the he said she said narrative going with Spider-Man, it makes sense Marvel wants to pull Watts away. Sony’s explanation for the split is not holding water with a lot of people, that Disney’s personnel were too busy for Spider-Man. The supposedly ludicrous ask by Disney of Sony puts things into more of a perspective for some people though.
