Warner Bros. Announce 4th ‘Matrix’ Starring Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne Moss

2019 marks the twentieth anniversary of The Matrix. With that in mind, Variety has reported that a fourth installment in the franchise is in development at Warner Bros.
The film will see both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss returning to reprise the roles they made famous in the trilogy. Lana Wachowski is also returning to write and direct the film.
Warner Bros will produce and distribute the film in collaboration with Village Roadshow Pictures. In a statement made Tuesday afternoon, Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich expressed excitement over the news.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” said Emmerich. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
The Matrix films have historically been big box office hits. Looking back at the $1.6 billion worldwide gross, bringing in the team responsible for that success is a smart play.
Additionally, Wachowski also expressed her joy over returning to the world she helped create. “Many of the ideas Lilly (Wachowski) and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” she said.
