New Details On Captain America & Red Skull’s Meeting In ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Revealed

Captain America easily had one of the best stories in Avengers: Endgame but his journey was almost drastically different. During their panel, screenwriters Markus and McFeely told the audience what almost happened in the film, via Aaron Couch.
The first bit of news was a reunion fans had wanted since his reappearance in Avengers: Infinity War, the Red Skull. Many fans speculated that since he was shown to be alive and guarding the Soul Stone, he would have a final confrontation with Steve Rogers. Though that didn’t happen in the final cut of Avengers: Endgame, it was almost apart of the film.
One idea Markus and McFeely had: Steve would be the one going to Vormir have to work with Red Skull as a sort of Gollum figure. #ComicCon2019

This would have been a cathartic moment to see. Two men from WWII now in the midst of dealing with power-hungry space warlords and magical rocks discussing it with each other.
The final bit of news is quite a bit more morbid. The screenwriters also revealed that initially when Thanos found out about the Avengers plan in 2023, he would travel to Earth, kill the Avengers of 2014 and bring Captain America’s decapitated head to the final battle.

I don’t think I have anything to add. We almost saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s Steve Rogers’ head used as a means to taunt 2023’s, Captain America.
That’s a sentence I never even dreamed I would write.
