The Walking Dead will be saying farewell to a fan-favorite character on the upcoming season. During the show’s Hall H panel at Comic-Con, they confirmed that Danai Gurira’s Michonne would be departing after Season 10.
During the panel, Gurira confirmed the previous reports that she would be leaving the series. Michone first appeared during season three of the show and has become a fan-favorite character.
This is the second year in a row the series has used their Hall H panel to reveal a star would be leaving the series. Last year they announced Andrew Lincoln’s departure. But unlike Lincoln’s, who will appear in several TV movies set in The Walking Dead universe, Gurira’s Michonne is not expected to return.
In the emotional reveal, Gurira talked about how much the show has meant to her and her career:
“I can confirm that this is the last season I will be on this amazing TV show as Michonne. I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role and to be amongst these people and those who are not here right now and amongst all of you. I’m very thankful for the experience I’ve had in ways I can’t state right now. My heart does not leave in any way, shape or form. The TWD family is forever. The connection between us never ends.
It was a very difficult decision. It is not connected to my heart. My heart stays right here. It was about my calling and other things I feel called to. The opportunities I’ve had, exploring it as a creator of work. I’m filled with a lot of pain about leaving and a lot of gratitude. I am thankful to all of you. I love you guys, and I love this show. The TWD family is forever.”
It is not yet known how Michonne will depart so we will have to wait for the upcoming season to learn any more about. But for further coverage of The Walking Dead panel and SDCC stay tuned to Full Circle Cinema.
