‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Is In Development At Lionsgate

While it’s been a few years since the final installment of the widely successful Hungers Games franchise Mockingjay, Pt. 2, was released, the men and women behind the scenes are already looking forward to the future of the series.
According to THR, Lionsgate, who developed the first 4 films alongside author Suzanne Collins, has plans for a live-action adaptation of a novel that has yet to be published. Collins has been hard at work writing a new prequel story set approximately 64 years before the events of the original Hunger Games with the 10th annual Hunger Games
“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie,” Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in an official statement.
The prequel book, currently untitled, is set to be released on May 19, 2020 via Scholastic. The franchise was one of the big money-makers in the young adult era of films that also included Twilight and Maze Runner. The studio is scouring the earth for their next big hit.
