The record breaking 16-time WWE Champion has officially joined his former rival in the Hollywood ring. As first reported by Deadline, Cena has been cast in the upcoming ninth installment of the billion-dollar franchise.
This news comes after Vin Diesel teased Cena’s involvement in the film on Instagram. While Hobbs and Shaw will be released by the end of summer, the Fast-franchise will not see another chapter until 2020. Justin Lin will direct the film with the likes of Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and Diesel expected to return.
This news comes to the shock and excitement of WWE fans as Cena is joining the series Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, is credited with revitalizing. The two superstars headlines both WrestleMania 28 in 2012 and WrestleMania 29 in 2013 in back-to-back main events. The two have remained close confidants since their encounters.
The Rock, given his rumored on-and-off set turmoil with fellow cast members, is still not confirmed to be back for the 9th film but this reunion on the big screen is one that this writer will be looking forward to.
