Jaume Collet-Serra In Talks To Direct ‘Black Adam’ For WB

We’re one step closer to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson suiting up in a superhero film. According to Brandon Katz at Observer, Jaume Collet-Serra is in talks to direct the Black Adam solo movie for Warner Brothers.
Collet-Serra began his directing career by tackling the horror remake House of Wax. Since then he’s helmed several actions flicks such as The Commuter, The Shallow, and Run All Night. Next year, Collet-Serra’s next project, Disney’s Jungle Cruise, which is inspired by the Disneyland attraction of the same name and stars Johnson and Emily Blunt, hits theaters.

Created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck, Black Adam is the archenemy of the DC Comics superhero Shazam. Earlier this year, the character appeared in hologram form in the David Sandberg-helmed Shazam!. Johnson became involved with Black Adam back in 2007 but didn’t officially sign on until 2014.
In April, Johnson took to Instagram to provide fans an update on the status of the Black Adam film as well as explain why he didn’t make a cameo in Shazam!. “This project…we had some challenges and we took a risk,” Johnson said. “As we were developing this a few years ago, the challenges and the struggles that we were having and that was gnawing at my gut [was] that we were trying to tell two origin stories in one script…. The challenges were, as you guys can imagine, you’re trying to tell two very big origin stories in the world of comic books of this DC Universe—two very important characters—trying to tell both their origin stories in one script. I didn’t think it was working.”
