Kevin Feige Hints At Plans For The “Real” Mandarin In The MCU

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige held an AMA on Reddit late on Thursday where he discussed a bevy of topics involving the cinematic universe he’s been so instrumental in creating. One user took the opportunity to ask about the possibility of the “real” Mandarin appearing at some point down the line to which Feige responded affirmatively.
To open Phase 2 of the MCU, Marvel Studios decided to introduce audiences to Iron Man’s archenemy the Mandarin when Iron Man 3 hit theaters. Fans were anticipating Ben Kingsley’s ruthless portrayal of the character, only to have the rug pulled out from under them when it was revealed that Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian was behind the entire evil scheme and the Mandarin was nothing more than a failed British actor named Trevor Slattery.

In 2014, a year after the release of Iron Man 3, Marvel Studios released the All Hail The King one-shot that followed Trevor Slattery in prison as a reporter comes to interview the faux villain. The reporter reveals himself as a member of the Ten Rings who was seemingly sent by the “real” Mandarin. So it appears Feige and co. have not forgotten about the breadcrumb they left all those years ago.
