‘Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé’ Review: “A Cultural Movement Like No Other”

When we all found out that Beyoncé was going to headline Coachella, we knew it was going to be one hell of a performance. What we didn’t know was the behind the scenes, reason and mission behind the performance. Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé gives us a closer look at her Coachella set and the way in which we see what Beyonce goes through on and off stage.
Thanks to how it documents Beyoncé’s Coachella performance, it immerses you into a beautiful musical world that Beyoncé created on that stage. It was stunning and breathtaking with a few surprises that really pulled this whole performance together. She not only created a performance, but she created a cultural movement. A movement so new and so fresh you just couldn’t take your eyes off of it. She wanted the world to know that being an African American woman in this day and age was only going to empower her.
What I like the most about Homecoming is how it shows the live concert and Beyoncé’s life beyond the stage. Most of the screen time is the performance, which does not disappoint in any way. When it moves away from the Coachella performance, Beyoncé’s true intentions come to the forefront. She took it upon herself and her team to create something beyond a performance. Instead, she created a documentary will have people talking for generations. When it comes to what it means to be a person of color in this day and age, Beyoncé showed us that no matter what you look to others, you take it and embrace it.
Beyoncé wanted to create a platform where marginalized groups of people didn’t feel excluded. She wanted a sense of unity between people over every race. As the first African American woman to headline Coachella, she had a lot of pressure under her belt. But Beyoncé changed Coachella to Beychella. No doubt about that. She acknowledged people of color who made their mark in changing the way we approach racial and social justice issues. It was truly inspiring to watch unfold.
With this documentary, Beyoncé proves once again that she’s indeed Queen Bey. Her Coachella performance is so stunning and authentic that she changed the game for years to come. She’s an example of how we as a country can continue to move forward to create a diverse and inclusive place.
