Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Reportedly Coming To Disney+

Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced they would be expanding on the Star Wars mythos, the one thing fans have been asking for is an Obi-Wan solo film. While that may not be the case, it looks like we could be getting the next best thing. According to our friends at Discussing Film, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be getting his own series on Disney+ that will hopefully star the fan favorite prequel actor, Ewan McGregor.
An Obi-Wan anthology film was long rumored to be in development, but after the timid response to Solo: A Star Wars Story, it was believed that Disney would be putting their planned spinoff films on hold for the time being. It seems like they have instead decided to focus their efforts on their newest streaming service, set to release this later this year.
It is unknown at this time who will helm the series or if Ewan McGregor will star, but considering the large movement of fans pushing for his reappearance as the character, it would be safe to assume we’ll be seeing him on the small screen. The show is also said to be in a limited format, similar to other Disney+ shows, with only 6-8 episodes.
This news was previously reported by StarWarsNewsNet, so that should only add to its validity.
If true, Obi-Wan will be joining the ranks of The Mandalorian and Cassian Andor spinoff shows on Disney+. These shows will also coincide with the many Marvel series’ planned for the service. Needless to say, Disney+ will have no shortage of great content for you to fork your money over.
A serialized format would actually lend itself to the character of Obi-Wan very well. Instead of only two hours with the character, we could be having up to eight, which would allow the creators to explore several different aspects of the Jedi Master. His time protecting Luke on Tatooine would be an obvious plotline for the series, but it could also delve into his time during the Clone Wars, or even focus on the highlights of Obi-Wan’s life, leading up to the events of Episode IV. The options are endless.
