James Gunn Returns As ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ Director

James Gunn has been brought back on as the director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! After months and months of uncertainty regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy threequel after his abrupt firing, Disney has reinstated Gunn via Deadline.
As it turns out, the decision to rehire Gunn was made months ago but is only now being made public. Since Gunn’s ousting, he has had multiple meetings with Disney president Alan Horn who was impressed by Gunn’s handling of the situation and his public apology regarding some distasteful, old tweets from years ago.
Gunn has remained relatively silent since the firing. His return became more complicated after he had signed on to write and direct the sequel/reboot to Suicide Squad for Warner Brothers and DC. It was also revealed that Disney had yet to meet with any directors to replace Gunn, despite rumors of Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and Vice director Adam McKay having meetings regarding it.
Before his firing, Gunn had finished the script that was since confirmed to be used regardless of who was in the director’s chair. James Gunn will commence filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after he finishes up with The Suicide Squad.
