During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Avengers: Kang Dynasty has been retitled to Avengers: Doomsday, and the Russo Brothers are returning to direct. But that wasn’t all, as it was confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU to play Doctor Doom.
The star’s shocking return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced at the end of the studios’ panel. Rumors of the star’s casting had circulated in the past, but not many believed them to be true, which made Downey Jr.’s reveal all the more exciting for fans in attendance.

Specifics surrounding Downey Jr.’s role were not revealed, but it seems that he may be playing a version of Tony Stark, who became Doom instead of Iron Man. Additionally, it was confirmed that the Fantastic Four will appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, so it seems likely that the star will be the Doom of their universe.
