One of Shonen Jump’s most popular series is set to return with a new spin-off series. During the Gintama Ato no Matsuri 2023 event, it was announced that the Gintama adjacent light novel series Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei will receive its own anime adaptation.
Gintama is one of Shueisha’s best-selling series, with over 55 million copies in print. Created by Hideaki Sorachi, the original manga ran from 2003-2019 and was collected into 77 volumes. Spawning a popular anime series that first aired in 2006, the series concluded with the release of the movie Gintama: The Very Final in 2021. The series is set in an Edo that was conquered by aliens called the Amanto. Focused on the samurai Gintoki Sakata and his friends Shinpachi and Kagura, the trio find themselves in various misadventures as they freelance and struggle to pay rent.
The spin-off will be based on the light novel Class 3Z Ginpachi-sensei which features the characters from the original series in a school setting. Storylines focus on the students of class 3-Z and their odd teacher Ginpachi-sensei.
Details about the spin-off are still unknown as of now, so fans will need to stay tuned for any updates. Fans have long hoped for the return of Gintama since it concluded, so this announcement is a welcome surprise.
