Monsters at Work is back with a brand new episode this week after a spectacularly cute episode last week. The show is heading full steam towards its season finale and I for one am very sad about it. I’ve been enjoying this series and was very excited to watch this brand new episode. Tylor and the MIFTers arc is becoming clearer than ever and I’m excited to see how it culminates. With that said, does this episode continue the show’s great streak or does the show enter its finale in a disappointing manner? Let’s find out…
In this episode – titled “Bad Hair Day” – Tylor (Ben Feldman) sets his sights on becoming the perfect MIFTer after abandoning his dream of becoming a Jokester. But when he loses the sacred hair of David, a former employee, Tylor must get it back before the MIFT team finds out. Last week’s episode left a lasting impact on the story’s direction, which is the first time it’s happened so far within Monsters at Work. However, this episode follows up poorly on last week’s story.
This episode of Monsters at Work just wasn’t necessary. Yes, a television show like this features many episodes like that but that isn’t the point. You pushed the story finally and acknowledged it, why not follow that path? I get the aspect that the season is ending next week and you can’t push it that much more, but it is still a weak episode compared to last week’s. There have been worse episodes, but none more disappointing than this one.
I felt like the prompt was just silly and didn’t work. Typically something like this has the Monsters at Work team firing with every creative juice they have, but this was just bland. Nothing truly special came from it except for a Dunkin Donuts joke that did make me chuckle. With a show like this, filler is fine but it has to be enjoyable filler.
