‘John Carter’ Project Reportedly In Early Development

Disney may be looking to revisit what has become a cult property among fans. According to insider Daniel Richtman, there is a new John Carter project in early development.

Based on the 1912 novel A Princess of Mars, Disney’s John Carter released in 2012 starring Taylor Kitsch. The film chronicled Carter’s adventures and his attempts to mediate the civil unrest of the kingdoms of Barsoom. While it was met with poor box office returns and equally poor ratings, the film has since gained a cult following.

Now it seems Disney is looking to bank on this following. According to Richtman’s Patreon, a new project is currently in early development. The project is seemingly a Disney+ series, which would give the creative team more time to flesh out the story. It seems unlikely this would be a continuation of the original film, so fans should expect an all-new cast and story for the project if it comes to fruition.

  1. Want a continuation of the John carter MOVIE!

  2. I want something that actually respects the source material–meaning the novels. I would pay good money to see a good rendering of each of them (well except the last one, which might not even have been written by ERB). Casting? Maybe Jim Caviezel as John Carter? He has the right mix of nobility, intelligence, and physical presence. Owen Wilson as Matai Shang? I’m not sure who could play Dejah Thoris. But other than the two main leads, I thought the movie cast was fine.
