Jean Smart Confirmed To Play Silk Spectre In HBO’s ‘Watchmen’

Last week at San Diego Comic-Con, HBO unveiled the new trailer for Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen series. In the clip, we got our first look at Jean Smart’s character, Agent Blake. Now, Lindelof has confirmed that Smart is playing an iconic Watchmen character.
According to IGN, at HBO’s Television Critics Association presentation on Wednesday Lindelof revealed the casting. Until now the actress was rumored to be playing Agent Blake, which was confirmed in the most recent teaser. At the TCA presentation, a new trailer was shown to critics which featured Smart’s character juxtaposed against a painting of the Minutemen which included Silk Spectre. During the trailer, Agent Blake admits she used to dress up in a costume and fight bad guys too.
Smart’s Silk Spectre is one of the few Watchmen characters confirmed to be in the new series, the others being Jeremy Irons’ Ozymandias and Doctor Manhattan. At this point, it’s unclear if other characters from the graphic novel will appear whether it be during the present or via flashbacks.

Set as a direct sequel to Alan Moore’s acclaimed comic, Lindelof’s adaptation is set to include everything from the comic as canon. Such a concept will undoubtedly ask some interesting questions, such as how did the world evolve after the events of Watchmen.
