Taika Waititi To Co-Write & Direct ‘Time Bandits’ Series For Apple

One of the whackiest directors working today is helping to develop one of the whackiest 80s properties for TV. According to Deadline, Taika Waititi has signed on to co-write and direct a Time Bandits series for Apple.
Last summer, Apple acquired the rights for Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits in hopes of turning it into a series. The 1981 fantasy film follows the adventures of a young history buff named Kevin who stumbles upon six dwarfs who emerge from his closet. They are former employees of the Supreme Being who’ve stolen a map that charts all of the holes in the fabric of time. Kevin and the dwarfs then travel through time and interact with various historical figures including Robin Hood, Napoleon Bonaparte, and King Agamemnon as the Supreme Being chases them down in hopes of retrieving the map.
Waititi is best known for directing 2017s Thor: Ragnarok, which pitted Thor against his evil sister Hela for the fate of Asgard. Waititi will helm an episode of Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian for Disney+ and his next feature film Jojo Rabbit hits theaters this fall.
