Character Breakdowns For Netflix’s ‘The Sandman’ Features Death

Neil Gaiman recently confirmed that the casting process for Netflix’s The Sandman is underway and now, thanks to a new character breakdown, fans have an idea of what they are looking for. According to insider Daniel Richtman’s Patreon, a character breakdown features Death of the Endless and more.
A previous breakdown which surfaced back in February revealed details about both Morpheus and the Corinthian. Now the first details about Dream’s sister Death have come forward.
Netflix is reportedly looking to cast an actress of any ethnicity between the ages of 18 and 25. Death is described as optimistic, caring, and empathetic. She takes her job seriously and tries to be a friend to those she shepherds to the afterlife. Lastly, Death is every bit the big sister towards Dream and acts as his occasional confidante, unafraid to point out his failings. The character will have a recurring role in the series.
The breakdown also revealed further details about both Dream and the Corinthian. Netflix is looking for actors between 26 and 36 for both roles, and both parts are described as leads.
In addition to Death’s breakdown, details were also revealed about several other characters, including Alex Burgess, Roderick Burgess, and Ethel Cripps.

Casting is looking for a white actor between 16 and 26 to play Alex Burgess in a recurring role. Alex is described as bookish yet handsome with a desire to please his father, Roderick Burgess. He is a self-conscious young man who is questioning his sexuality. Alex represses thinking about what he wants for his own life in order to continue to serve his family’s legacy.
Next, the series is searching for a white actor between 50 and 65 to play Roderick Burgess. He is a self-proclaimed sorcerer, prophet, and the founder of the Order of Ancient Mysteries, which promises self-actualization through the occult – for a price. In truth, there is nothing magical about Roderick. He’s a fraud – but an energetic, intensely charismatic one. A narcissist, he relishes encounters with much younger women and the accumulation of wealth and treasure. Wounded by the untimely loss of his eldest son, Roderick treats his youngest son, Alex, with cruelty and disregard. In the comics, Roderick is the one who accidentally captures Dream when he attempts to gain immortality by imprisoning Death.
Lastly is Ethel Cripps, an 18 to 28-year-old female of any ethnicity. She is a bold and fearless street-smart woman who masterfully leverages her beauty to manipulate men and get what she wants. Ethel is a self-survival expert who knows when to flatter, barter or steal based on what best suits her interests.
It was also revealed that Toby Haynes has been offered to direct with Allan Heinberg, David Goyer, and Neil Gaiman producing.
